MY TRUE STORY: WEEK 5!
Hey, everyone! Do you know what time it is? It’s DRAFTING time. So, we need to bring the rough drafts of our personal essays to our next two workshops for reading and peer review. Therefore, make sure that you EMAIL me your draft by Sunday, November 15th. Before sending me your draft, make sure that your draft has all the things on this checklist: 1. Do you focus on at least one specific event, place, person, or thing? 2. Do you describe the physical surroundings vividly? Colors? Sizes of things? Shapes? Sounds? Smells? Touch? Tastes? 3. Do you describe invisible details? Thoughts? Feelings? Assumptions? 4. Do you include dialogue? 5. Do you provide emotional variety in the essay? 6. Do you use figurative language? Similes? Metaphors? Personification? Hyperbole? Onomatopoeia? 7. Do you provide a lesson or “big point” at the end or the beginning? Write both a serious “big point” and a comedic “big point.” 8. Do you have at least one page (single-spaced) of writing? Good luck! I am excited to see what you all produce 🙂 PS If you absolutely do not like your current personal narrative, please know that you can change your focus to something else.
